Research subject for a potential FP6 project

The overall objective of the proposal is development of novel technologies of bioactive and biocompatible magnetic fluids for various medical applications, namely for anticancer treatment, for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, antiinflammatory treatment and for diagnostics. This aim will be achieved by the development of new types of biocompatible magnetic fluids, immo-bilization techniques for binding of biologically active to fine magnetic particles and methods for drug targeting.
Objectives of the proposal are:
1. to develop technology for biocompatible/bioactive magnetic fluids: optimized the preparation procedure for monolayer sterical stabilized primary magnetic fluid and magnetic nanoparticle concentrate, adequate redistribution/biocompatible stabilization of magnetic nanoparticles in biocompatible carriers. Complex characterization of samples: magnetic and rheological pro-perties, as well as microstructural characteristics,
2. to prepare fine monodomain magnetite particles Fe3O4 with average size diameter in range 8-12 nm by coprecipitation and to estimate the basic magnetic properties of fine magnetic particles by magnetization and susceptibility measurements,
3. to immobilize bioactive substances (well known anticancer drugs, clot lysis drugs, antibiotics, antibodies and vasoactive drugs, respectively) to fine magnetic particles without loosing of their biological activity,
4. development specially formed permanent magnets for trapping of magnetic fluids deep in organism,
The major achievements of the proposal would be the improved diagnostic methods for detection of cancer diseases as well as the improved treatment of cancer, cardiovascular diseases and inflammatory diseases by drug targeting using an external magnetic field.
